The past two weeks we have been learning about two and three-dimensional shapes. The grade 4s have learned about the properties of the shapes, how to recognize them and building real life models of the shapes using interesting materials such as play dough, marshmallows and kebab sticks.
Learning using manipulatives and concrete objects helps the children root the knowledge and understand it in a real world.
“I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.”
Our Grade 5s at Lesedi are learning all about 2D and 3D shapes and will soon be creating their own Geometrocity. Today they had a chance to make 3D shapes using nets as well as using salt dough and tooth picks. The Grade 5’s then used their models to explain vertices, apex’s, faces, edges and the various different aspects of a 3D shape.
