Research is clear – children learn best in a climate and culture that is positive, with strong interpersonal connection, and filled with kindness and love. Love sees the learner and their potential, believes in them and guides them to that potential. At Lesedi, we really believe our learners are capable and deserve a better future than currently available education can offer. We also believe all learners learn best when they are having fun and when the work engages them. (Fun does include hard work and striving to overcome as well as enjoyment in doing the activity) Our Project Based Learning model is very well suited to assist our Lesedi leaners to gain 21st century skills. We all naturally want to solve problems and demonstrate mastery. The learners are given a choice in the project / problem to solve. The project the grade tackles is linked to their grade level and general school work expected for that grade. The Reading Eggs and Lab-on-Line web-based reading development programme has been invaluable in improving their reading and comprehension. It is not an exaggeration to say that they learn better and more at Lesedi than they do in their own schools. We have seen learners’ average grades at school improve by one symbol if not two.
